Objective: The purpose of this study was to design a dedicated test to assess the physical fitness of the Basij e Mostaz'afan forces.
Methodology: The mixed research Method (qualitative-quantitative) was conducted in two-phase. The first phase was done through library studies, semi-structured interviews with expert managers, and the formation of a specialized working group, and the second phase was done through field data collection from Basij e Mostaz'afan forces. 40 volunteer sample of the Basij Mostaz'afan was assessed as prototype test to evaluate the validity and reliability of the physical fitness test, in the following, 522 samples were selected to prepare the standard norms. The test-retest method was used to evaluate the reliability, the concurrent criterion validity method was used to evaluate criterion validity and comparison of the beginner group, and the elite group method was used to evaluate structural validity. Data analysis was performed using an independent t-test and Pearson correlation test. The operational needs of each department were analyzed using semi-structured interviews and the specialized working groups and the most required physical fitness factors of the Basij volunteer forces’ were determined. Then, the appropriate specific test was designed and the content and face validity of the test was confirmed in a working group consists of experts, military managers, and physical education professors.
Results: In the quantitative phase, results showed that the designed test structural validity (comparison of beginner and elite groups, P = 0.001) simultaneous criterion validity (comparison with standard tests; r > 0.9), and reliability (test-retest correlation = 0.89) were confirmed. Finally, the Standard Norm for test evaluation in three age groups (15 to 19 years, 20 to 29 years, and more than 30 years) was developed using normal curves and percentage points and reported in separate tables.
Conclusion: The designed test can evaluate the physical fitness of Basij e Mostaz'afan forces in accordance with the operational conditions.
